Morava Vidensky special — January 7, 2015

Morava Vidensky special

Microbrewery in Frydek-Mistek announced its first new beer in 2015. It´s Vidensky special (Vienna lager) and it´s going to be on sale by Jan.16th.

Vienna or amber lager was developed by brewer Anton Dreher in Vienna in 1841. Austrian brewers who emigrated to Mexico in the late 19th century took the style with them. Vienna lager is a reddish-brown or copper-colored beer with medium body and slight malt sweetness. The malt aroma and flavor may have a toasted character.

27/10 – Day of the Czech Beer — September 25, 2014

27/10 – Day of the Czech Beer

10404205_488510641251856_5646375575593680103_nOn Saturday you can celebrate the Day of the Czech Beer! It´s St. Wenceslaus Day as well and because St. Wenceslaus is a patron of the Czech lands and beer is typical for us it´s a perfect day for pilsener or two. So let´s have some pints of czech style lager and try to taste some decent one.

But. If you don´t like pilseners or lagers you can buy and taste this Svatovaclavsky special (St. Wenceslaus special) made by Beskydsky pivovarek in Ostravice. It´ll be stronger IPA and it´ll be perfect as usual.

So Cheers!

PINTA Pierwsza Pomoc 10,5° — September 18, 2014

PINTA Pierwsza Pomoc 10,5°

Pilsners are back and on the rise! First BrewDog now Pinta Browar. Famous craft breweries are trying to prove that they too can make a real good pilsner; style which is more connected to industrial breweries than to the craft ones. I haven´t had a chance to try them yet but I´m very curious!

“The First Aid” pilsener is made from five different malts (Weyermann®: pilsnener, monachijski II, Caramunich®, Carapils®) and two different polish hops (Marynka, Lubelski). The premiere is set to september 20th and it will be available in a beer bars and shops accross Poland and in Pinta Pub in Krakow.

Ecuador – Doggerlander Bongo’s IPA – Sangolqui – American India Pale Ale style copper-amber beer. It has very high fruity-ester, citrus-like, piney aroma and flavor. Medium maltiness is present. And hop flavor is strong. Hop bitterness is medium-high. A very refreshin beer named in honor of Bongo the dog who used to accompany us to brew in our homebrewing time. “Copper, orange, with good head retention; intense grapefruit, passion fruit, mango, fruity, piney aroma and flavor. It has the bitterness of an IPA and I think it is the only real IPA right now in Ecuador. Good beer definitively, lots of flavors and aromas.” – Rodriguez

France – La Choulette Ambrée – Hordain – Bierre de Garde – La Choulette Ambrée is the classic amber version of a French bières de gardes. It has a wonderfully spicy aroma and is fullflavored, but effervescent and refreshing. “Bottle 75cl. Light unclear medium amber color with a small, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, vintage – alcohol. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (250108)” – fonefan

Colombia – BBC Septimazo IPA – Bogota – “Bottle from fonefan tasting. Clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel and moderate hoppy – grass. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 180514” – Rasmus 40

Greece – Santorini Red Donkey – Thira – Amber Ale – Red Donkey, formulated with a combination of malts specifically chosen to produce its chestnut hue, utilizes a different collection of hops – including Aurora and Styrian Golding from Slovenia, Citra from Oregon, and Nelson Sauvin from New Zealand.  Awakened by an alternative type of Belgian-style yeast, the result is fruity, full-bodied and richly colored.  A champagne style bottle completes this elegant offering which will enhance any fine dining experience. “330ml bottle, L-292/13, ordered from Vinmonopolet bestillingsutvalget, picked up at the Langnes store. Clear golden-brown body, very hazy last pour with sediments. Off-white head, loose glass-lacing. Mild fruity aroma, mandarin and grapefruit, semi-dry. Moderate taste profile containing juicy malts with a twist of herbal hops. Bittersweet endnotes. Medium bodied. Quite smooth and clean in the mouth. Fair enough (Tromsø 11.04.2014).” – Rune

Ivory Coast – Mamba – Abidjan – Premium Lager – Malty, German-style lager from the Ivory Coast, Africa. “This bottled brew poured a large sized head of fine to large sized white colored mostly diminishing bubbles that left behind a fair lacing. The body was transparent carbonated and orange in color. It had an malty aroma with a hint of orange peel in it and a medium tingly smooth mouth feel with a very light aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of mild low alcohol malt liquor that was malty and thin. This Malt Liquor would be good for people wanting an atypical Malt Liquor without the strong Malt Liquor flavor and palate” – thedm

Japan – Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout – Ibaraki – Caramel, roasted, black and chocolate malts provide an explosion of coffee like flavors. The strong espresso character comes from the addition of espresso beans to the boil. Notes of vanilla, dark fruit , cocao and chocolate. The very unusual character of Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout stems from the fact that Kiuchi Brewery is using the recipe of a Russian Imperial Stout as base. Pitch black color, big brown head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted bitterness, black currants, dark fruits. “12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a light redish rim and a small chocolate brown head. Roasted malt, chocolate and herbal coffee aroma. Dry and dense chocolate malty flavoured with a distinct coffee bitterness coming through. Smooth vanilla notes too. Ends slight herbal and roasted coffee flavoured and bitter. Chocolate into the very far finish.” – yespr

Group A:

Brazil: Eisenbahn Rauchbier – Blumenau – Eisenbahn’s Defumada, very much like the famous smoked lagers of Bamberg, Germany, is brewed with a special, smoked barley malt, giving it a rich, smoky flavor and aroma. A delicious and immensely satisfying lager. “Bottled. A brown beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is slightly smoked combined with light notes of malt, caramel, and rope. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as lighter notes of smoke, and rope, leading to a dry slightly bitter and slightly smoked and toffeeish finish. Too little smoke for my liking.” – Ungstrup

Croatia: San Servolo Svijetlo Pivo – Buje – unfiltered and unpasteurized beer which ensures natural product, rich in vitamins B-complex and refined taste of all the ingredients, pleasant smell of fresh yeast, the fullness of pure malt and all the freshness of hops. Additional fermentation that takes place in the bottle gives this beer naturally occurring carbon dioxide, and a note of floral honey that leaves no one indifferent. “Bottled 500ml. -Courtesy of and shared with Marko (thanks!). Hazy yellow/golden coloured, small to medium sized white head, grassy hoppy nose. Malty, grassy hoppy and mild fruity with slightly too watery finish. Pleasant but could be even better.” – Ogivlado

“Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting to diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, sweet coffee, brown sugar – sweet malt. Initial flavour is heavy sweet and moderate to heavy bitter, finish flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and heavy bitter with a long duration, sweet burnt, bunrt malt bitter, thin, drk roasted, dark chocolate, choclade beans. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20110715]” – fonefan

Cameroon: Beaufort Lager – Douala – Pale Lager – “found in an african shop in my hometown – golden beer with a chaotic foam; notes of paperboard with light aromatic hops; medium-bodied, subtle carbonation and a light harsh bitterness; corny and malty finish – decent” – Bov

Radegast Fajront — May 19, 2014

Radegast Fajront

The biggest North Moravian brewery made another special beer. This time it´s a strong double hopped lager called Fajront. That´s a german slang word for the end of a work day used by miners and steelworkers in this region. Fajront beer commemorates 175th anniversary of Ironworks in Trinec, a nearby city that grew around this factory.

I have tasted it and it´s pretty strong (it would have about 6.00% alc) and it´s really dry and hoppy.  I´m very curious if this beer will be accepted by mainstream drinkers.
